About

Hello there! I am Dr. Kathryn Campana, a psychologist in private practice in the Washington, DC metro area. I am so glad that you are considering working with me to start or continue your therapy journey. Therapy can be an immensely rewarding experience, and with some information about what to expect from your provider and the process, you will be set up for success! I view healthy relationships as vital to mental health, and work with clients in individual and group therapies using an interpersonal/relational and strengths-based perspective. I frequently integrate cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques into my work, especially when working with anxiety and substance misuse. My areas of specialty include mood and anxiety disorders, phase of life and transition issues, relationship counseling and enrichment, sexual health and dysfunction issues, diverse gender and sexual identities, women’s issues, substance misuse, and group therapy (e.g., interpersonal process, substance misuse and risk reduction, mindfulness, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues and support). Throughout my professional work and advocacy, I support and affirm youth and adults with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and relational arrangements. I enjoy using creative methods in therapy, and often invite clients to use art, music, and writing to process their experiences and express themselves. A note about sex therapy: I believe that sexual health and wellness are human rights, and I work with individuals and partners to promote healthy, fulfilling sexual, physical, and emotional intimacy. However, sex therapy is like any type of psychotherapy- we talk through your experiences, worries, and feelings. There is absolutely no physical touching; any sexual advances are unwelcome and therapy will be terminated. I offer free 30-minute phone consultations to determine if we will be a good fit; we will talk about your concerns, goals, and availabilities. Because Capital Village Counseling PLLC is a small private practice, I am unable to meet the treatment needs of individuals who might require more intensive or specialized mental health treatment, such as for those individuals presenting with active suicidality, recent psychiatric hospitalization, severe mental illness, severe substance abuse and dependence, and disordered eating; or those who need a legal evaluation for disability, custody, or court-ordered treatment. I will be happy to provide some references for treatment in the DC area if you would benefit from this kind of treatment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOU ARE OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS IN CRISIS: Call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. The Lifeline offers 24/7 call, text and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. People can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Faith Estimate Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
